How to Create a Route?

It's always far more interesting to create your own route. Several online tools are dedicated to that. The most famous for Europe is, I guess, Outdooractive. You will find below the different steps for creating a route with that website.
1 - Open the route planner tool
Sign in on Outdooractive, click on Tours, and Route Planner.

2 - Where should I start and end?
Assuming that you use the train to go to the starting point, you should start near a train station (corresponding to a red point on the map). The most common starting point are for example: Garmisch Partenkirchen, Lenggries, Bayrischzell, Kufstein...

3 - How to make my trip interesting?
Avoiding boring parts like roads and asphalt. Try to take only red dotted lines.
Adding a hut - it's always very appreciated to have a beer during the break.
Climbing at least one peak.
Adding lakes, caves, gorges, panoramas, and other points of interest.

4 - Finalization, saving & sharing
Make sure the route does not last more than 6 to 9 hours depending on your level. You should also take a look on the Internet to know the difficulty of the route you're planning to do. Steep and dangerous parts can sometimes be hardly seen on the map.
When you're done, save the route. Then, click on My Page, and select the trip you just planned. You will get the link of your map by clicking on "Share with friends".
The GPX button must be used for downloading a *.gpx file, that you can upload into a GPS or a smartphone application.
